Tribe Midwifery Perspective

Our practice is rooted in tradition.  We are inspired by a culture that holds pregnancy and childbirth as sacred, where the entire village gathers to support a family in their time of great transition and growth. We do that. We rally. We support like a village. We believe there is deep wisdom in the ways of our ancestors and we offer this rich tradition to greater Los Angeles, surrounding communities of growing families.

Compassionate Care

We support and celebrate the many choices every expectant parents must make in creating a birth story that represents her. With high-level medical & midwifery training we integrate both medical and holistic care into our practice. Tribe Midwifery welcomes all birth plans and preferences. We listen to your concerns and work in an evidenced-based model of care, integrating the latest research to give you exactly the support you need to feel confident on the day we place your beautiful new baby in your arms.

A Growing Village

We serve ALL  families! Our earnestness in providing excellent care has created a beautiful village. Prior clients and our birth professionals never lose touch. Our heart-driven work has attracted a diverse community of warm, like-minded folks. Together we make the world a happier healthier place, one family at a time.

Debbie’s Calling

Twenty-two years ago I experienced
a hospital birth with my first son. It was filled with unnecessary interventions and most importantly… it lacked the tenderness and intimacy that I believed is the core of childbirth. When I became pregnant again, birthing in a hospital did not sit well with my spirit. I sought the alternative, which was hard to find in 1995. My second and third sons were born at home surrounded by family and friends with Midwives. The indescribably beautiful and powerful experience of those home births inspired my pursuit of natural birth, education and choice for women… and eventually Midwifery!  For the next 17 years I supported women as a Doula. In 2008 I decided to study Midwifery – which I did in California, Utah, and Florida. I am a member of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives. and California Association of Midwives

The Tribe Practice

We are committed to honoring each family’s choice to birth in a safe and supportive environment. We feel it is an honor and privilege to witness a baby take their first breath, couples become families, and children become siblings. We offer midwifery services in our office or your home. We are committed to supporting you throughout your birth experience and beyond. Forever part of our Tribe.

Improving Racial Disparities

According to the CA Health Department…
– Approximately one in seven African American babies are born too early or too small.
– African American babies are more than twice as likely as White babies to die before their first birthdays.
– African American women are much more likely than White women to die of pregnancy-related complications.

Something is seriously wrong with these statistics and it is our  mission to offer respectful prenatal care and contribute to reducing these disparities. We are committed to educate every pregnant woman, not just those who have access to premium care, about birth statistics and choices that will afford them their best possible birth outcome.
